Why Meditate on Death?

“Mortality is the fundamental reality of our existence.” – Sadhguru

I just booked my trip to Varanasi, India for September.

Varanasi, India is also known as Banaras or Kashi; the ancient City of Light.

Kashi is India’s holiest city and is also the oldest city in the world. It existed prior to Athens, Rome, and even Egypt. The city itself has thousands of temples each vibrating distinctly different energies for pilgrims and seekers looking to expand their consciousness.

Kashi is also India’s #1 destination when it comes to death. As much as 300 bodies are brought to Varanasi everyday with cremation pyres burning 24/7.

Everyone wants to die in Varanasi.

How is it that the oldest city in the world is simultaneously known for it’s light and liberation and yet, at the same time, the smell of death lingers everywhere?

How can this city be both the City of Light and the City of Death?

To understand these two seemingly opposite worlds, let’s begin with what is referred to as ‘death meditation’.

The notion of meditating on one’s death isn’t something new. Many Eastern religions, philosophies and spiritual practices invite their devotees, meditators and disciples to focus on this inevitable aspect of life.

Death meditation involves visualizing your own death and watching your body burn and slowly disintegrate. Though this sounds morbid and depressing by Western standards, the East has long known that this death meditation can be powerfully liberating.

By visualizing your body burning you mentally and emotionally go through the process of disidentification with your physical form.

Watching your body burn, seeing the flames char the flesh and turn it to ash is deeply compelling.

Tears may flow, body heaves may come in waves while intermittent shudders reflexively purge throughout the system.

An intense grief might overtake you as watch the most visceral and personal possession you have; your physical body, slowly get consumed by ever growing flames, heat, and smoke.

What was once a discernable human form is starting to lose it’s recognizable features and intimate characteristics start to fade and dissappear.

As you continue to watch your body burn another rising sense of grief makes itself known. All that was yours, all that you could call distinctly your own; your home, your clothes, your personal items, even your family, pets, children, and spouse also slowly fade away.

Fear rises and falls as you continue to watch the scene unfold.

Anxiety, worry, grief and despair all get their chance to express and release.

Finally the seemingly never ending torture seems to find it’s end. You see that the body is no more. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The silent strength in knowing that everything that was once physically, mentally, emotionally and energetically yours is now gone.

What is left?

Awareness. Ever-present silence. A sense of Equanimity. A profound Acceptance into the nature of Life and Death.

A newly found raised pitch of conscious awareness.

“What you accumulate can be yours, but it can never be you.” – Sadhguru

Meditating on your own death is a potent practice because it dissolves that primitive fear that we all share.

The fear that when the body dies we are no more.

But, when you meditate and invite this death meditation into your awareness, when you purge the fear and release it, it creates a profound opening.

An invitation.

A realization and final understanding.

What once held you back in fear has now liberated you.

No fear, just life. No death, just awareness.

It is only when you can face your own death with grace and dignity can you then have the courage to live authentically and fearlessly.

Life and death are simply the flip side of the same coin.

Death Meditation

So Kashi, the ancient city of Light and Death.

Where you can simultaneously walk the streets to the next temple that may hold your liberation while the smell of death lingers through the air.

Varanasi, the oldest city in the world, knows the ultimate secret.

Are You Looking for a Spiritual Mentor?

If you’re here, you’re likely searching for deeper clarity, transformation, and guidance on your spiritual path.

My name is Elizabeth Hancock, and I am a Spiritual Coach and Meditation Teacher with years of experience helping individuals navigate their personal growth, self-discovery, and energetic refinement.

I work with clients worldwide via phone and Google Meet, offering insights that help them reconnect with their higher self, overcome obstacles, and cultivate a sense of inner mastery.

How a Spiritual Life and Meditation Coach Accelerates Transformation

Spiritual life coaching is about going beyond the mind, past limiting stories and patterns, and into a place of deep awareness and expansion.

As a Spiritual Life Coach, my role is to help you see your experiences from a heightened perspective—to connect the dots between your past, present, and future potential so that you can create real, lasting transformation in your life.

The past cannot be changed, but the way you see it can.
And in shifting your perception, you reclaim your power.

Who Is Spiritual Coaching For?

This work is for anyone ready to go deeper—beyond self-help, beyond surface-level healing, and into true energetic alignment.

I work with those who:

✔ Feel lost, stuck, or uncertain about their purpose
✔ Struggle with confidence, communication, or setting boundaries
✔ Experience repeated challenges in relationships, health, or career
✔ Are overwhelmed by stress, burnout, or emotional heaviness
✔ Feel drawn to spirituality but need clarity, direction, or deeper integration
✔ Have engaged in meditation, shadow work, or self-inquiry but still feel blocked

Each client brings a unique journey—and my work adapts accordingly. Some may need guidance in releasing emotional blockages, while others require deeper insights into subconscious beliefs, karmic patterns, or spiritual evolution.

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach—it is highly intuitive, uniquely tailored, and deeply transformational.

What Does the Coaching Process Look Like?

The process begins with a discovery call, where we explore:

🔹 Your current life situation—challenges, desires, and aspirations
🔹 What you have tried before and what has (or hasn’t) worked
🔹 The vision you have for yourself and how we can bring it into reality

From there, I offer 3-month and 6-month coaching packages that provide structured yet fluid support.

Coaching isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about deep, sustainable transformation.
The pace is set by you, but the more engaged and committed you are, the more powerful the shifts become.

Every six weeks, we pause for reflection—assessing how far you’ve come, what has shifted, and where the next evolution lies.

The Role of Energy in This Work

As a Yogi, Mystic, and Energy Practitioner, my work isn’t just about conversation—it’s about energetic refinement and alignment.

Before our sessions, I tune into your energy field, gaining insights into what is needed for your highest growth.

This may include:

✨ Personalized Guided meditations—helping you move beyond the mind and into deep clarity
✨ Spiritual roadmaps—offering a framework for long-term transformation
✨ Higher perspective insights—helping you see your experiences through a lens of wisdom

Many of my clients have described these sessions as deeply illuminating, healing, and catalytic.

The Power of Meditation in Coaching

Meditation is a key component of transformation, and for those who are open to it, I integrate guided meditations into sessions to facilitate deeper clarity and healing.

These meditations are not just about relaxation—they are designed to shift your energy, expand your awareness, and move you beyond limiting narratives.

Even clients who have never meditated before find these sessions profoundly transformative. No special experience is required—only a willingness to receive.

For those interested in building a personal meditation practice, I help develop customized routines to anchor and integrate spiritual insights into daily life.

Phone Coaching vs. Google Meet: Which One is Right for You?

The focus of this work is on self-awareness and spiritual evolution—not surface-level conversation.

Most clients prefer phone coaching because it allows for deeper introspection without the distraction of video.

However, for those who feel more comfortable with face-to-face interaction, I also offer Google Meet calls.

During guided meditations, we turn off our cameras so that you can fully relax and be present in the moment. Once the meditation is complete, we turn them back on for discussion and reflection.

This work is not limited to my local California area—I work with individuals worldwide.

Who Am I?

For as long as I can remember, I have been a seeker of truth.

I do not follow blindly. I do not accept what I am told.

I believe in direct experience—in going beyond belief and into knowing.

I have spent over 30 years as a dedicated meditator, mystic, and spiritual practitioner, working under the guidance of a realized guru and deepening my understanding of the subtle mechanics of energy, consciousness, and transformation.

My work is not theoretical.
It is lived, tested, and refined through direct experience.

This is not about self-improvement—this is about awakening to what you already are.

How to Get Started

Spiritual coaching is not about fixing. It is about illuminating what has been hidden, clearing distortions, and stepping into your power.

If you are ready for:

✔ Radical self-awareness
✔ Deep energetic alignment
✔ A higher perspective on your journey

I invite you to take the next step.

Five Non-negotiables – Enhance Your Energy and Expand Consciousness

There are many little things that we do everyday that we wouldn’t dream of skipping, like brushing our teeth, taking a shower, or eating. Though many of us live very different lives, there is a stark difference between surviving and thriving.

Individual’s that choose to live their lives in a manner of consistent growth and development know that creating daily non-negotiable habits are integral to living a life of greater purpose and fulfillment. It must be understood that most things that bring a sense of peace and joy are not found through temporary and immediate gratification, but are often hard won after a certain level of sacrifice has been implemented.

Those that employ daily non-negotiable activities enjoy greater mood regulation and stabilization along with more consistent feelings of overall purpose and value. In other words, if you want to enjoy life to the fullest you need to consciously implement daily strategies in order to maximize conscious growth and expansion.

Here are five basic non-negotiable activities that you can choose to adopt in order to create a healthier overall lifestyle:

1. Sleep – Follow Nature’s Natural Rhythm

They say that for every hour you sleep before midnight, it is like an additional two hours of sleep. Though this may largely be a widespread myth, the fact remains that getting to bed early helps the body’s natural circadian rhythm and sleep cycles to perform at optimum levels. From an energetic perspective, the amount of sleep you need is largely dependent upon the food that you eat, the thoughts and emotions that you have, and the level of overall vibrancy of your energetic system.

Vegetarian diets are easier to digest and put less strain on the body thus requiring less sleep to revitalize the body’s energy levels. Thoughts and emotions also play a large role in the amount of sleep one needs; with habitual worry, anxiety and a negative mind-set resulting in poor sleep stretched over many hours.

Finally, energy vibrancy aka prana or chi energy is cultivated through meditation and energetic practices, which overtime, lowers the amount of sleep the physical body needs to recuperate during the night.

Whether you need five hours of sleep or eight, going to bed early allows one to get up early and there are a great many advantages to getting up prior to sunrise that will get your day started off in a very powerful way.

2. Meditate

Like Hatha Yoga, the West has adopted ‘meditation’ as their own and now happily espouses the virtues of this ancient spiritual practice. It must be said however, that meditation in the traditional sense is quite different from what the Western mind has molded it to be. Meditation is a consequence of a certain state of consciousness and is a result of a purified mind with no thought or ‘object’ as its subject. Meditation is natural and available to anyone but needs to be cultivated over many years of consistent practice.

There are many reasons why one would practice the regular stilling of the mind to a no-thought state, not least of which is the immediate sense of clarity of perception, higher awareness, and emotional regulation and control stemming from the watching of thoughts and executing the choice of whether or not one chooses to respond to a particular thought or simply watch it float on by.

“WHEN MEDITATION IS MASTERED, THE MIND IS UNWAVERING LIKE THE FLAME OF A LAMP IN A WINDLESS PLACE. IN THE STILL MIND, IN THE DEPTHS OF MEDITATION, THE SELF REVEALS ITSELF. BEHOLDING THE SELF BY MEANS OF THE SELF, AN ASPIRANT KNOWS THE JOY AND PEACE OF COMPLETE FULFILLMENT.” – THE BHAGAVAD GITA

Long time meditators enjoy silence not because they are boring but because in silence we expand our awareness beyond the confines of the small ‘me’ that we perceive ourselves to be. With conscious expansion comes higher awareness of the natural unity of all life and feelings of deep compassion and love for existence.

Breaking the chains of habitual thought and rising above our thought level allows one to consistently be the ‘observer’ instead of always being the exhausted participant. Meditation is the elixir of the soul and building a daily practice is a panacea to many mental/emotional disturbances.

3. Exercise

Incorporating daily exercise should be a no-brainer at this stage of health awareness. Our body needs to move and stretch, heart rates need to be elevated, sweat released, muscles strained and bones stressed. Our bodies are physical machines that need to be oiled and lubricated daily in order for them to be operating at optimum levels.

Whether it is running, swimming, weight training, cycling, yoga or simply floor exercises, the body craves activity while the mind enjoys some time off. Exercise releases tension, stress, and anxiety and releases stuck and stagnant energy. Those that exercise daily enjoy tight firm bodies, radiant skin, bright eyes and a relaxed happy attitude.

There is more than enough data available to confirm that daily exercise is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. Anywhere from 30 – 60 minutes everyday can make a marked difference in one’s overall attitude and emotional well-being.

4. Healthy Eating

Food is fuel for the body and is just as much a chemical process as it is an alchemical process. As everything is energy on the quantum level, so too is the food that we choose to eat. Different foods carry different qualities and energetic vibrations that affect our internal chemistry and vibrancy. Food that is natural and unprocessed offer the highest pranic (energy) value and requires very little energy for our body to break down and assimilate.

Food that is highly processed or dense (meat) takes a very long time to digest and siphons a huge amount of energy to process. From an energy efficiency standpoint, it doesn’t make sense to eat foods that are highly processed as they offer little to no nutritional value.

If one is clear in making health and wellness a priority in their lives, then nutrition and healthy eating should also be a no-brainer. Each meal should have high energy potency that allows the body and brain to function at the highest possible level for long-term well-being.

5.  Contemplation/Reflection/Self-Inquiry – Journaling

The journey of life should be one of continual growth, expansion, and maturity. As children our lives are occupied with learning about the outside world and how we can potentially fit into it.

We spend these early years paying stark attention to social mores and cultural traditions. We seek to fit in and be part of the group whether that is a family unit or one of our choosing. As we continue to grow and mature we evolve past these confines and start to seek a deeper connection to life itself; a more inclusive attitude that incorporates all of humanity, not just our familiar family and friends.

For this to happen we must expand and grow into someone new. Journaling is a very powerful tool to help aid in the continuing evolution of Self and who we aim to create ourselves to be. The awareness that we can ‘choose’ to be someone instead of defaulting into someone is in itself a very powerful revelation.

For those that have come to understand that, “…All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players..” (Shakespeare), it is time to consciously choose who we want to become. For this, journaling is an immensely powerful tool of illumination, revelation, and contemplation.

Live Simply

Life is simple.

These five basic non-negotiables of everyday life will take you a very long way.

Does It Help To Analyze Our Past?

The Western view of mental health puts great emphasis on our past with Sigmund Freud popularizing psychoanalysis and our psychosexual developmental stages.

However, Freud’s views run in direct contrast to the Eastern view of mental health when viewed through the lens of the Yogic sciences and philosophy. In fact, the two couldn’t be further apart.

We are all familiar with the more Westernized traditional forms of therapy where one goes to a professional to help dissect the past hoping to find a seed experience that might be shrouded in trauma which helps to explain or at least point to present day subconscious tendencies, poor coping skills, and maladaptive behavior.

People are often in therapy for years on end, endlessly digging, analyzing, and putting what they think are the missing puzzle pieces of their broken psyche back together again.

But the ancient science of Yoga doesn’t place any emphasis on the mind or any of its disturbances. In fact, focusing on the mind and past experiences is of no interest at all to this path of enlightenment and higher awareness.

Yoga instead focuses on the present moment.

But how does one stay focused, present, alert, and aware of what is happening when we have obvious mental hang ups, negative thought patterns, and unbridled emotions that keep us from staying cool, calm, and collected?

Wouldn’t analyzing our past help us to stay aware of the present moment?

Don’t we need to look to our past to know who we are now?

The above questions come from an erroneous assumption. The assumption being that we are our personality or our ego.

But if we are not our personality, then what are we?

Ah, now we are getting somewhere! This is where the path of Western psychoanalysis has an obvious dead end.

No, we don’t need to endlessly analyze and pick through our past traumas and suffering in order to fix ourselves because fixing the ‘person’ is not the point.

Our suffering, in any and all cases, is due to our deep identification with our personhood, our personality, our character, our ego, our likes and dislikes, all of which of course, include our past and projected future.

The crux of the issue is what we identify as or what we think of as “us” or “me”.

Western psychology has not evolved past the notion of the egoic state of consciousness because those that are analyzing and digging through the past are themselves deeply identified with their own personality and egoic structure. It is like the blind leading the blind.

To truly move beyond all your self-imposed suffering one must create a distance from what you call as ‘you’ and start identifying with your greater ‘Self’, as your true and ultimate nature.

This is not the same as simply exchanging one belief system for another.

To be clear, a belief is defined as an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists; trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something.

In contrast, knowledge is defined as facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education.

The reason Yoga is considered a science is because it has a systematic process that can be replicated over and over again through experiential validation. It is not a belief system and doesn’t require one to believe anything.

All that is required is to follow the process and realize the results.

All those that follow the path of yoga have realized that their true reality can be summed up in one Sanskrit word: Satchitananda or existence, consciousness, and bliss.

How would you like to let go of the past? No longer suffer? Remain present and aware to every moment and not miss the glory and miracle of being alive?

How would you like to be soaked in bliss every moment?

This is not only possible but assessible for everyone right now.

We are not our past. We are not our personalities. We are not our likes/dislikes or even our family bonds and connections.

We are existence, consciousness, and bliss. This is our true nature.

Do you believe this? Or, do you know this?

If one truly wants to discover who and what they truly are, then looking behind you will never free you.

The past is dead.

What is alive is this present moment; this NOW.

Yoga is defined as ‘union’ and describes the union of individual consciousness to universal consciousness.

How To Be More Confident – The Confidence Formula That Works

We all admire those with that cool, calm and collected air of presence; a heady combination of self-assurance, wit, ease, and grace. These are the people that walk into a room with all eyes on them; a magnetic force too strong to deny.

They speak with power. They walk with purpose. They command attention without uttering a word.

Where does this self assurance come from? How is self confidence made?

We Are All Growing Into Someone

As youngsters we had to be taught the rules of how to live in this world starting with basic communication skills like speaking, reading and writing. These skills were systematically learned one upon another over years of continuing education. Whether you go so far as to earn your P.h.D or get certified in a vocation, the aim is to acquire a skill set or knowledge base that can be readily implemented to further your livelihood.

As the years go by, this accumulated knowledge is implemented through action over and over again until a certain level of competence has been gained. Accountants crunch numbers, sales people sell, doctors support patients and artists hone their craft.

Experience begets expertise.

Thus it comes as no surprise that those among us who excel at what we do, are more confident than others.

When our knowledge and abilities are continually executed with a high level of precision that results in a successful track record, we build confidence.

Confidence is a skill that can be learned – but more often earned.

Confidence Comes From Competence

So why do so many people suffer from low self-esteem or feel insecure? Well, if all human beings learn the same way and are made up of the same basic genetic structure and mental capabilities, then it stands to reason that most people simply haven’t exerted any level of effort to excel in something by which they can feel confident about.

Confidence is a byproduct of successful execution.

“CONFIDENCE BREEDS SUCCESS AND SUCCESS BREEDS CONFIDENCE. CONFIDENCE APPLIED PROPERLY SURPASSES GENIUS.” MIKE TYSON

When we say that we suffer from not being ‘confident’, it simply means that we are not really competent. Competence is defined as the ability to do something successfully. Whether it is public speaking, building a business, losing weight or forming healthy romantic relationships, it doesn’t matter what arena of life your self-doubt and insecurity manifests – you have not mastered the skill-set needed to perform at a competent level of mastery.

INFORMATION —> KNOWLEDGE —> EXECUTION = SELF MASTERY = CONFIDENCE

Information that turns into knowledge which is then continuously executed is the formula for Self Mastery. If you’re feeling anxious, insecure and unsure then rest assured you likely haven’t paid your dues or logged enough hours. You cannot earn a black belt in one weekend, build your dream business overnight, or find your true love when you don’t love yourself. In every area of life there is foundation work required before successful execution results in competence. After all, they say that it takes 10,000 hours of practice before you can master any skill. How many hours have you logged?

“I FEAR NOT THE MAN WHO HAS PRACTICED 10,000 KICKS ONCE, BUT I FEAR THE MAN WHO HAS PRACTICED ONE KICK 10,000 TIMES.” – BRUCE LEE

In rare cases where people have tried but have continuously failed, the answer is not in the execution but in the approach. If you are doing something and not getting the results you want, then obviously you need to change your method of execution.

No one said life was easy, but it certainly gives you exactly what you are putting into it. Not getting the results you want? Go out, get new information, turn it into knowledge and execute. Same formula – different data set. Life is really that simple.

Ask yourself the following questions:

What have you wanted to do but have been too afraid to even try?

“I CAN ACCEPT FAILURE, EVERYONE FAILS AT SOMETHING. BUT I CAN’T ACCEPT NOT TRYING.” – MICHAEL JORDAN

Many people have hopes and dreams but fail to execute any of them.

Want to build a business? Having the desire to build one isn’t enough.

Remember the formula? Information —> Knowledge —> Execution = Mastery. Go out and build your knowledge base, read business books, watch videos of entreprenuers and listen to their stories, take business 101 classes, and associate with successful business owners who you can learn from.

Want to feel good about yourself? Having the desire to feel good isn’t enough.

Remember the formula? Information —> Knowledge —> Execution = Mastery. Go out and build your knowledge base, read books by inspiring people, watch videos of how the happy live their lives, take classes that excite you, and associate with happy, healthy, loving people who you can learn from.

Want to lose weight? Having the desire to lose weight isn’t enough.

Remember the formula? Information —> Knowledge —> Execution = Mastery. Go out and build your knowledge base, read books on proper nutrition, watch videos and documentaries of how the physical body works, take classes at the gym and associate with physically active, healthy individuals who are already the living embodiment of the life you want to live.

Life offers many ways in which to obtain new information that can be turned into knowledge. The trick is in going out and obtaining this new information and executing it consistently. With consistency one eventually obtains experience and with experience comes confidence. Life really is that simple.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

Failure is a part of life and those that are at the top of their fields have failed many, many, many times. Mistakes are life’s greatest teacher and many successful people know that any new endeavor will see some inevitable mistakes along the way. This is simply par for the course. Mistakes are natural, normal, and totally acceptable.

“I’VE MISSED MORE THAN 9000 SHOTS IN MY CAREER. I’VE LOST ALMOST 300 GAMES. 26 TIMES, I’VE BEEN TRUSTED TO TAKE THE GAME WINNING SHOT AND MISSED. I’VE FAILED OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE. AND THAT IS WHY I SUCCEED.” – MICHAEL JORDAN

The Time Is Now

Please see that our ‘personality’ is nothing more than a construct; an accumulation of life experiences, knowledge, and the interpretations we put on them. It doesn’t matter where you feel insecure, for insecurity is just limited data or failure of execution. What matters is obtaining the right knowledge from the right place and taking action. If you follow the formula then success and confidence are natural byproducts.

If you’re ready to change, ready to gain different information, new knowledge, and be held accountable for action and execution then a Spiritual Awareness & Integration Reading can help guide you into Self Mastery.

All you need are the right tools and methods to step into your Greatness.

Are you ready to step into yours?
